2026 Bylaws Update: Key Changes You Should Know
Dear CSTA WA members,
Happy New Year!
Can you believe we are entering the latter half of the 2020’s? It has been almost a year since the four CSTA organizations have merged and officially become one unified organization to support us all under the name of CSTA Washington (CSTAWA).
At our quarterly membership meeting in December, CSTAWA board and organization members collaborated in updating the mission of our chapter to better reflect our goals of supporting high quality CS education in WA state. The updated mission statement of CSTAWA reads,
“Provide community, professional development, and advocacy for Washington educators to help them deliver equitable, engaging, high-quality CS education for all K-12 students that ensures responsible technology creation and use so that everyone can thrive in a world powered by computing”.
In addition, we are in the process of updating the chapter bylaws, which were originally signed in 2014 and amended in 2019, for the following reasons:
- to incorporate this new mission statement
- to align our old bylaws with the updated CSTA National bylaws template
- And to acknowledge that we are doing business as the unified CSTA Washington chapter
Regarding point 3: while we were hoping to easily change our legal name to CSTA Washington on the bylaws and with the state, this would involve a lot of time to get all of our legal affairs in order. Using a DBA (doing business as) will allow us to easily continue our exciting programming this year, and we will explore a more formal name change in the future.
Soon we will be asking all CSTAWA members to vote on these new bylaws. Per both the old and new bylaws “These Bylaws may be amended by a vote of 2/3 of the Chapter membership and approval of the CSTA Board of Directors.” – so we really need everyone to vote!
To review the specifics of the updated bylaws, please see

All of the proposed changes are highlighted in yellow, all of the additions are underlined, and all deletions are stricken. The highlighting, underlines, and stricken text will be cleaned up once the bylaws have been approved. .
As always, feel free to email Please e-mail us at washington@csteachers.org with your questions, comments, and connections. And please be on the lookout for the email with the bylaws approval ballot!
Thanks so much
Michelle
