Participation in CSEd courses decreased in Washington by 10.8% from SY2022-23 to SY2024-25. The rate of decline and underlying reasons varied significantly by region (ESD). ESD 171 saw an increase of 1.5% while three ESDs saw decreases of more than 20%
The percentage of students enrolled in CS dropped to 8.3% in 2024-25 from 8.7% in 2023-24 and 9.3% in 2022-23, 10.8% in two years. Further, most of this change is due to students not taking a CS elective even when it is offered their school. The percentage of students enrolled in CS in schools that had CS declined by 9.7% (12.4% to 11.2%) from 2022-23 to 2024-25
