Celebrate Washington’s 2026 FIRST Robotics World Qualifiers

First Robotics

Robotics has a special place in Washington’s computer science education ecosystem.  Many computer science teachers also spend long hours advising their schools’ after-school robotics teams, and robotics (22.5%) is the second most frequent computer science course category after Core CS (45.2%)

With the robotics competition season wrapping up, student teams across Washington state have given computer science educators plenty to celebrate!  These competitions offer a massive proving ground for K-12 computer science standards—specifically in algorithms, data tracking, and hardware-software integration.

Following a highly competitive Pacific Northwest District Championship, Washington’s top teams qualified to travel to Houston, Texas, from April 29 to May 2 to compete in the FIRST Robotics World Championships.   Special congratulations to Tahoma Senior High School (Team 2046 – Bear Metal) and Henry M. Jackson High School (Team 2910 – Jack in the Bot), who were two of the five teams making it to the World Championship Finals:
