Washington Computer Science Courses 2026 Beta
This Tableau visualization illustrates what types of computer science courses (with an approximation the number of students) were taught in Washington’s public schools from SY 2020-21 to SY 2024-25. Course categorizations include Core CS, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Technology, Media Programming, Physical Computing, Software Development, and Web Page Design. Drilldowns are available statewide, by ESD, and by district. The dashboard also provides information on 1) the growth rates of computer science courses and course categories; 2) the percentage of CS courses taught as CTE; and 3) a tool to search for all schools teaching a given course in a given year.

The mapping of course codes to course categories in the Course Code to Category Mapping tab in the visualization was created by making several editorial decisions after referencing various data sources. These visualizations are based on the Courses_School (integrated with info from Students_School) tabs of the 2024-25 K–12 Computer Science Education Data Summary Report released by OSPI in June 2026.
With this and related dashboards and report PDFs, educational leaders at the state, ESD, district, and school levels can better understand the strengths and weaknesses and make better decisions about CS and CTE education in their organizations.
