ECEP Common Metrics Project 2026

The Expanding Computing Education Pathways (ECEP) Alliance, a National Science Foundation Broadening Participation in Computing Alliance, works to increase the number and diversity of students in computing and computer science pathways. With a focus on K-12 education, ECEP partners with local and national organizations to address the lack of diversity in computing at a systems level.
ECEP is an alliance of 29 state teams and the territory of Puerto Rico. Teams of broad- based advocates from K-12 as well as leaders from multiple sectors aligned with education work to advance policy and build sustainable solutions for change. CSforAll Washington is the ECEP affiliate for Washington.
One of the major projects of the ECEP Alliance is the Common Metrics Project designed to elevate the role of data in systems change work and to prioritize the democratization of data, ensuring that CSEd advocates at all levels from K-12 to government can advance universal computer science education pathways. As of Sep 2026, 15 states have provided data for the Common Metrics Project, and any state can apply to be included in the project. What distinguishes this dashboard from other CS data tools is its flexibility and focus on local empowerment. Recognizing that the definition of “Computer Science” can vary significantly across state lines, the dashboard allows states to define CS parameters according to their local needs, ensuring the data are always contextually relevant.
